On finishing - Date: 2026-02-18 - Field: Notebook For most of the history of making things, completeness was expensive. The last ten percent of a film, a record, a book — the grade, the mix, the proof — cost more than the first ninety. So we learned to stop early and call it taste. That economics has changed. The marginal cost of carrying a piece of work all the way to done is now close to nothing. Which removes the excuse, and leaves the question: if it's cheap to finish, why is it still unfinished? ## Usually the honest answer is that you were never going to. This studio is built around the opposite default. Finish the thing. Then decide what it is. --- # The look before the explanation - Date: 2026-01-09 - Field: Criticism Walk into a good gallery and the label is small, low, and late. You meet the painting first. The wall trusts you to look before it explains. Most portfolios do the reverse. A paragraph of context, a list of credits, then — if you've survived the preamble — the work. It is the order of someone who doesn't trust the work to hold a stranger's attention on its own. > Context is a reward for curiosity, not a toll on it. So here the work opens cold.
